About Karen
Karen Ann Bulluck
I am a . . .
a storyteller, and I share my stories through writing and speaking. It all started with my love of books and stories from the time I was a child, and I’ve learned just how powerful our stories are. Especially the ones we tell ourselves.
I’m also a risk-taker. These days a strategic one. I call my body of work “Daring to Transcend” because I know that taking risks is essential to a life well lived.
My Education
I have a Master of Science in Organization Leadership with honors from Regis University, my undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Virginia, and a professional coach certification from iPEC.
I also love to learn through reading and travel. I have traveled extensively throughout the world, and I have studied many modalities of spirituality both formally and informally. Mostly, I love to learn about people and what makes them tick!
My Corporate Career
I was the first woman promoted to Executive Vice President at AM Best Company, the premier international insurance rating agency and information provider. I was on the board of directors for a European subsidiary and the parent company. My career was marked by taking the risks to make many cross-disciplinary changes, having an impact throughout the organization.
My specialty was bringing innovation and change to struggling departments: upgrading technology, redefining processes, and aligning staff with the best jobs for them. My career culminated with responsibility for the Information Services Division of AM Best.
I Thrive On . . .
challenging deeply held assumptions or habitual ways of behaving, especially my own. I know that these are the moments when the possibility of transcendence becomes real.
I love to learn and try new things, stretching myself mentally, physically, and emotionally. Although I also know when to retreat and rest!
My Books
The Ascending Ladders Series follows a female executive, as well as a cast of other characters, through a transformational change in corporate leadership and their personal lives. In Book 1: Discovering Power, Sheryl Simmons faces a series of ethical dilemmas in navigating the changing landscape of her company. In Book 2: Pursuing Truth, she deals with unethical behavior at work and at home, maybe? Plus, her husband and one of his work colleagues add their voices to the story.
The conclusion of the trilogy: Embracing Trust will be released in February, 2026.
I am also a contributing author to three international bestselling Anthologies: Check out my Anthologies page for more details.
On a personal note . . .
I live in New Jersey with my husband and two very spoiled cats. In my free time, I love to read, listen to music, and enjoy a great meal with friends. My husband and I like to ski, hike, and enjoy great food together. We also love to travel and experience the transcendence of nature and other cultures.

My more adventurous hobbies – past & present . . .
I used to be an aerobatic pilot. Yes, that means I turned airplanes upside down! I have a private pilot’s license with an instrument rating, as high-performance engine and taildragger certifications.
I also have an advanced PADI scuba diving certification, am a downhill skier, and love to hike. I play the piano (badly but for my own enjoyment) and enjoy bicycling on beautiful roads and trails.

I BELIEVE THAT
Living a Big Life is
Worth the Risk
I am passionate about making the impact and contribution that I am here to make. and inspiring other people to do the same. That’s why I write about workplace struggles with integrity and trust.
I want to encourage women to be brave enough to take the risk to speak up, to defend themselves (and others), and to find fulfillment in whatever they choose to do.
